I’m James. Here’s something’s about me
On January 17th, 1994, I was clubbed from behind with a baseball bat by four punks in NYC, from an attempted mugging, which left me wheelchair dependent. I suffer from the loss of balance, speech impediment, and loss of some of my fine motor skills (loss of some coordination). I’ve been undergoing intense Physical, Occupational, Speech and Cognitive therapies ever since (30 years).
I graduated from Colorado Mesa University, in Grand Junction, Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems in 2011. I drive my wheelchair accessible van and I ride my Harley Davidson motorcycle independently; I had a custom sidecar made to hold my w/c.
I have an abundance of determination to live my life as best I can despite the circumstances. I was delt with. Sometimes it is difficult accepting the judgement people place on me, only seeing me as a cripple in a wheelchair as opposed to accepting me as I am w/o judgement at all. I used to be a letter carrier for the USPS, I walked 10+ miles a day. I realize that people who judge don’t matter, as those who matter don’t judge. The one’s that knew me before the incident don’t even notice the wheelchair.
I have 3 children and 6 grandchildren that I’m so grateful I’ve been spared to watch them all grow and thrive..
